Understanding Assessment
Saskatchewan has a full assessment revaluation every four years as required by provincial legislation. The current revaluation is for the years January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028, with a base date of January 1, 2023. The legislated base date means that 2025 values reflect a property’s value as of January 1, 2023.
The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) determines the assessed value for properties in the rural municipality. The province establishes property classes, percentages of value and exemptions. Please visit the website listed below.

Assessment Appeal
If you believe you have identified an error after reviewing your Property Report, we want to hear from you. To appeal your assessment, you must prepare a notice of appeal form and submit it with $300 per assessment number to the municipal office. The form is on the reverse side of the assessment notice and can also be obtained from our website rmofcanwood.ca or the municipal office.
Property owners may be prompted to appeal their assessment because they feel the property taxes are too high. It is important to remember that you cannot appeal your taxes; you appeal your assessment.
